Pollard Windows Inc. Offers Energy Efficient Glazings

Burlington, Ontario. May 14, 2007: Pollard Windows Inc. offers different glazing options to suit its customers’ needs. With a diverse clientele across North America glazing options with a varying degree of energy efficiency are requested regularly. For instance, a customer in a southern climate will be interested in blocking out sunlight and U.V. rays which can cause a strain on the air conditioning system and can fade draperies and furniture. While a customer in a northern climate will be more concerned with keeping the warm air inside the home and keeping the cold elements outside. Pollard Windows works with its customers to ensure the customer is attaining the U-Factor and/or Energy Rating it desires for any project. Occasionally that involves using a different type or different combination of glazing.

A common energy efficient glazing that Pollard Windows utilizes in it’s Liberty Collection vinyl clad wood windows is Powerpane Plus. Powerpane Plus combines Solarban® 60 Low E with Argon gas and an Intercept® spacer bar. Pollard Windows’ products are ENERGY STAR® qualified, which means they are of the most energy efficient on the market. Also, Pollard Windows’ products were featured in the Near-Zero Energy Home in Paterson, NJ which received a LEED® Platinum rating – the highest- from the U.S. Green Building Council®.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, in an average home about 38 percent of heat loss is through the windows and doors. Installing energy-efficient windows can reduce home energy costs by as much as 15 percent. By using Pollard’s Powerpane Plus glass units customers get the benefits of Low E solar control, added insulation of Argon gas and thermal barrier that the Intercept warm edge spacer bar provides. Intercept spacer bars are so energy efficient that they keep the edges of the window glass warmer allowing for better comfort in the winter. This glazing helped make the Paterson house 80 percent more energy efficient than a home built to model energy codes established by the U.S. Department of Energy.

“The particular brand of Low-E glass we use, Solarban 60, makes all the difference,” says Gary Pollard. ldquo;Solarban 60 is unique because it also offers solar control and that’s essential for comfort.rdquo; Pollard explains that this feature blocks direct solar heat gain year-round, while keeping the inner window panes warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Condensation around the window and the transmission of ultraviolet light are both reduced. The special coating also protects against the fading of paintings, curtains, furniture and other objects in a home, an added benefit that protects interior decor.
