Pollard Windows Inc. Upgrades to Solarban® 60
Burlington, Ontario. July 26, 2006: Pollard Windows, Inc., a major window manufacturer based in Ontario, Canada is leading the way in energy efficient design, with the company’s decision to use only high-performing Solarban® 60 for all its Low-E glass offerings.
This brand of Low-E glass, manufactured by PPG, is widely recognized for its outstanding insulating value in both the summer and winter months. Pollard’s Low-E units also use Intercept spacer units that improve heat retention, while reducing condensation and the build up of mold. The dual sealed units are argon enhanced and come with Pollard’s exclusive, non-prorated 25-year warranty against seal failure – the only warranty of its kind in the industry.
“All insulating glass is not alike," says Gary Pollard, Owner of Pollard Windows. "Solarban® 60 is an incredible product." He points out that the total solar energy transmitted through Solarban® 60 glass units with argon gas is 50% less than that transmitted by standard clear insulating glass, keeping you cooler in the summer and cutting air conditioning costs. According to Pollard, the nighttime winter U-Value (insulating value) of Solarban® 60 glass is almost 50% lower than standard clear insulating glass, thereby reducing heating costs and increasing comfort (lower U-Value means higher insulating performance).
Although it has the appearance of clear glass, Solarban® 60’s microscopic metallic coatings also reduce the transmission of ultraviolet rays, which over time can cause upholstery and drapery colors to fade. Performance data indicate that Solarban® 60 is 72% more effective at preventing the pass through of ultraviolet rays than standard clear insulating glass.
Pollard adds, “We have made our Low-E windows as effective as possible by coupling Solarban® 60 Low-E Glass with an Intercept “Warm Edge” spacer unit that further inhibits heat loss, condensation and mold production.”
The Intercept Spacer, which is also manufactured by PPG, is a steel U-channel made as one continuous piece. Pollard claims that PPG’s design increases the structural integrity of the unit and creates an extremely effective thermal barrier. In combination with Pollard’s dual seal, the Intercept spacer also significantly enhances retention of the unit’s argon gas fill.
“We recognize that heat loss through windows is a major problem,” notes Pollard. “So, we are constantly searching for ways to improve the insulating value of our product. This new design combination is a huge step forward.”
About Pollard Windows
Pollard Windows was founded by a young visionary with a strong work ethic. Norman Pollard arrived in Canada in 1947 ready to embrace a new life for himself and his family. A skilled carpenter, he taught his wife and children everything he knew about woodworking. And in 1948, the family business was born.
The Pollard formula for success was simple: work hard, reinvest in new technology, and give customers more for their money. Today, Pollard operates out of a 300,000 sq. ft. plant and is recognized as a leader in window manufacturing technology.
