Installation
    Instructions

IMPORTANT! Installation instructions are recommendations for typical construction only. Pollard Windows strongly suggests that an experienced contractor, architect or structural engineer be consulted prior to installation. Regional standard practices and codes may vary and supercede the procedures contained within; it is your responsibility to ensure compliance. For warranty to be valid, product must be installed according to instructions.

1. Check and prepare opening. Is the sub floor level and solid? Provide a flat, level clean bearing surface so the sill can be caulked and sealed to the opening. Scrape, sand, or fill as required.

2. Be sure the door opening is square and plumb. Check all corners with a framing square and double check by comparing diagonal measurements. Use a 6' level to check both sides of the opening to ensure the framing is plumb.

3. Lay door unit on the exterior face so that bottom side of sill can be caulked. Place three large beads of caulk across the full width of the sill. Additionally place caulk along the joint of the sill extension and the sill.

4. On sub floor place large beads of caulk that will match with those placed on the sill. Run the beads the full width of the opening.

5. Place unit in opening. Plumb the hinge side jamb both ways. Use a 6' level.

6. Shim the hinge side jamb behind the hinges. (Figure 1) Recheck the hinge side jamb both ways to ensure it is plumb and straight and fasten using a minimum screw size of #8 x 2 ½" screws. If installing a unit with a sidelite, fasten the sidelite jamb on the hinge side of the door. If installing a double door fasten jamb on the fixed side of the door.

7. Shim the unfastened jamb. (Figure 2) Adjust frame so that the frame face is proud of the door by 1/8" all around. Check weather strip contact and margins. Adjust frame as required so contact and margins are equal all around the door.

8. Recheck everywhere for plumb and square. Secure unfastened jamb using a minimum screw size of #8 x 2 ½" screws through the shims.

9. Remove transport clip. Open and close door to ensure smooth operation. Adjust if necessary.

10. Ensure all wood or fibreglass components are properly finished with paint; or stain and at least two coats of polyurethane as soon as possible to protect them from construction moisture.
